Earlier today, Nathan figured out how to open doors! He learned how to pull the handle down yesterday and today he’s figured out that if he pulls, the door will open. It was pretty funny watching him because he would open the door and look outside as if it were a different world out there, but he wouldn’t step a foot outside the door. Then he would close it and do it all over again. He was doing this for almost 15 minutes. I had to watch him carefully so that he wouldn’t shut the door on his fingers! Towards the end, he did step outside his room and into the hallway. He keeps surprising us at how quickly he’s discovering and learning things! What a smart boy!

Careful- I Have A Spoon and I Know How to Use It!

I’m Done Feeding Myself– How’d I Do?
Daddy stayed up one evening reading our “How to Raise Babies for Dummies” book (just kidding, we’re not even sure such exists! But, it is a book on caring for your baby/toddler) and was concerned that Nathan may be falling behind on some of his milestones, like self-feeding. So, the next night at dinner, I handed Nathan the spoon and helped him spoon his food and he brought the spoonful of food right into his mouth. He fed himself for the rest of the meal- and, the bigger the spoonful, the better. We couldn’t believe how quickly he learned how to do that. To make sure it wasn’t a one time thing (and to let him practice some more), I let him feed himself at breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day. He did great! He knows how to scoop into the bowl, but doesn’t always get the food. But, he does know how to get the food into his mouth! That’s the most important part, right? Anyways, this is a photo of the aftermath of his first self-feeding. Not too bad, huh? (In case you’re wondering, that’s sweet potato on his face)
The Emperor’s New Shoes
Posted in 15 Months with tags Shoes on January 13, 2008 by cybaWell, what can we say? We’ve got silly kid. He was playing with a brochure ( = ripping it to shreds) and discovered that the pieces stick to his feet when he walked on them. He tried to shake them off his feet, but they were nice and stuck. He thought it was the funniest thing and started walking around the house with his new “shoes” on. We think he might be onto something– easy on, easy off, and fairly comfy. I think he’s taking orders! Hurry! (Before he runs out of paper!)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Posted in 15 Months, Holidays with tags Helmet, New Year on January 1, 2008 by cybaI’m ready to ring in the New Year in my nifty New Year Hat! (It’s my helmet on the other days of the year!) I wasn’t able to stay up to see the New Year in, but mommy and daddy did. Mommy woke me up when she gave me a little kiss on the forehead at midnight. But, I was so tired that I fell back asleep- after a quick cry of protest, of course. My mommy, daddy, and I (and Toby, too), wish you a healthy and happy 2008! Happy New Year!
Love,
Nathan
